Subterranean Ball – Podcast

Mine workers ready to start work in a Newcastle coal mine, having just arrived at the bottom of the shaft. Engraving from “The Leisure Hour”, No. 187, July 26th, 1855, a very moral British publication described as “A Family Journal of Instruction and Recreation. Price One Penny”.

Our latest Podcast – The Subterranean Ball, is based on a little known event at a Mine in Gosforth Newcastle, owned by the Reverend Ralph Henry Brandling ‘A genuine English Country Gentleman’. After searching for coal for four years they eventually dug deep enough to find a suitable seam. To celebrate the event, the Reverend held a ball underground for workers, their families and the local gentry. This podcast is the Hive Storytellers interpretation of what may have happen.
