Remembering where it all began

In 2015 Hive Radio started a project that would take those involved on a journey that is still providing new information. The Audio Drama ‘Rule 55’ was inspired by a story of the Jarrow Train Crash which was suppressed during WW1, and is still relatively unknown. Hive found out about it during a conversation with John Caffery who had been researching his family history and discovered that his grandfather was in the train crash on December 17th 1915. He survived but had a fractured leg. John had then gone on to find out more about the crash and had found a Headstone in Harton Cemetery which showed the names of 3 soldiers who had died but ‘Also twelve civilians who lost their lives in a rail accident at St Bede’s Siding. Using John’s research Lorna Windham and Lilly Moon created the audio drama Rule 55, and worked with the Bede’s World community to bring together all of the amateur performers to record the play. You can now listen to the play in its entirety on our podcasts platform https://spotifycreators-web.app.link/e/1PlFeaiJiRb
